The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council has announced a new agribusiness investment in Hopkinsville, as Genuine Fertilizer Solutions, L.L.C. prepares to establish its first facility in the Hopkinsville Industrial Park.
According to a recently approved incentive application by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority, the company plans to invest approximately $2.9 million to construct a liquid solution fertilizer manufacturing plant. The project is expected to create between 10 and 15 high-paying jobs, further strengthening the region’s agricultural workforce.
Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight welcomed the announcement, calling it another significant step forward for the city’s economic growth. He said the investment not only brings new employment opportunities, but also reinforces Hopkinsville’s role as a hub for business and industry in western Kentucky. Knight also credited support from state leaders, including Andy Beshear, as well as local and regional partners who helped make the project possible.
The company is owned by David Barbee, who said he is grateful for the support received at both the state and local levels. He emphasized that the facility will focus on innovative fertilizer solutions and expressed optimism about building a company that can compete at a national level while serving the agricultural needs of the region.
Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam also praised the project, noting that agriculture remains a cornerstone of the local economy. He said the addition of a state-of-the-art fertilizer manufacturer aligns well with the county’s farming heritage and long-term economic strategy.
