A prevalent yet unrecognized issue in the agriculture industry remains the one of farmer’s mental health.
Over 30% of farmers in the United States struggle with mental health, many of which do not have access to resources such as counseling or medication.
The Hopkinsville FFA Chapter decided to host a campaign with the end goal of making farmers feel seen. The campaign includes a partnership with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s program, Raising Hope, which promotes farmer safety and health in the field.
A part of this included Challenge Coins, which are small reminders given to farmers in hopes to provide them with a little bit of hope when dealing with mental health.
The coin which Hopkinsville FFA created has the FFA emblem on one side, with the Raising Hope symbol, the mental health hotline number, and a message of appreciation on the other.
Those who are given challenge coins are encouraged to pass on the notion to those who may be in need of support.
