FFA students don’t slow down when summer arrives. Many spend their break completing Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, putting classroom lessons into practice in real-world settings.
YourAgEdge invited local agriculture advisers to nominate two students for an SAE spotlight series. Today’s feature highlights a standout from Hopkinsville FFA: Anthony Webster.
For Webster, a love for animals has shaped his SAE and his career goals. Though not from a traditional agricultural background, Webster has always been drawn to animal care. That passion led him to the Christian County Animal Shelter, where he completes his SAE.
On a typical day, Webster can be found in the puppy room, cat room, or kennels, ensuring animals are clean, fed, and given enrichment. He also assists in the receiving room, helping process new arrivals at the shelter.
His involvement in FFA has opened doors he never expected. Webster became the first member from his chapter to attend the Washington Leadership Conference. There, he built leadership skills, connected with peers from across the nation, and met with Congressman James Comer.
The conference emphasized teamwork and service. As part of a community project, Webster and his peers assembled boxes for the homeless.
“Trying to help people get the same opportunities I’ve gotten, because if I wasn’t in FFA, I’d probably not have nearly as many of the leadership skills I have today,” Webster reflected.
After graduation he plans to pursue a career in either the medical field or zoology.
