A local Todd County resident is making strides in crop research.
Maggie Gillum grew up on a family farm where she developed a love for farming and research. After graduating high school, Gillum went off to the University of Kentucky where she got her bachelors in agriculture and medical biotechnology.
Gillum decided to continue her UK journey and is currently working for her masters in integrated plant and soil science. She has been working on a research project studying wheat.
She presented her research and process at the 2025 Wheat Field Day.
For Gillum the opportunity to study wheat was a special one.
After graduate school, she plans to still be involved in research and help farmers.
